Women in Safe Homes Fund

Real assets

Social property and supported housing

UK

There is a chronic shortage of safe, decent and affordable housing for women at risk of and experiencing homelessness. Women’s homelessness is often rooted in trauma and violence and in 2022 1.7 million women in the UK experienced domestic abuse, one of the leading causes of homelessness.

The Women in Safe Homes (WISH) fund, believed to be the world’s first gender-lens property fund, invests directly in residential and refuge accommodation across the UK to provide a solution to the lack of affordable, safe and secure homes for women who are experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic abuse, prison leavers, or have other complex needs including mental health problems In addition to providing safe and affordable housing, the fund also provides person-centred specialist support to help these women recover from their difficult circumstances.

The fund is a leading model in reducing homelessness for women and their children.

Why we invested

Women in Safe Homes Fund

In selecting funds, we consider impact and financial goals equally, and so this is the best way to talk through the criteria we used to decide to invest in the Women In Safe Homes Fund. From our existing relationship with Resonance, we are confident they will actively use impact data to improve and learn, and to prioritise the needs of tenants.   We think this puts the Women In Safe Homes Fund in a strong position to deliver deep and lasting impact The fund generates revenues through the residents’ housing benefits and returns are enhanced by house price increases over the life of the fund. The Women In Safe Homes Fund meets our return requirements for the asset class. Revenues are Government-backed which diversifies our portfolio income streams and is uncorrelated to.
